11x17 Giclée print on paper

Inspired by the language found in Revelation Chapter 7, this painting was created to help visualize a reality where “a great number that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages” is together, worshipping, having been led by the lamb to the “springs of living water.”

This painting holds over one hundred figures of references from people and places— some being stunning cultural expression that inspired me, others the gestures of real moments in time that have carried an “eternal love” significance for me. They have been composited together to exist in this heaven-like world. The base river’s inspiration comes from the James in Richmond, where my family and I have rooted our lives and take seriously Jesus’s prayer for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Even as the work towards unity among God’s people across different divides can feel exhausting, discouraging and constantly under attack, having an image of this ultimate end is meant to serve as inspiration to not be shaken since the kingdom of the King to whom we have been promised is unshakeable.
