When Maggie first came to me with a request to paint my own recreation of $9,000 Miagkov's Hydrangeas, I was intimidated to say the least! His work is stunning and clean and beautiful. I truly learned so much about his choices as I studied his work and strived to emulate it. I am so grateful for this opportunity to study such a brilliant painter, so many thanks to you, Maggie, for not only giving me this opportunity, but believing in my talent for this project in the first place! It is such a humbling compliment.
I am told this piece will live out its days above a kitchen table while Maggie spends her mornings drinking coffee beneath its beauty. :)
Even though it was Maggie's eyes that first fell in love with the idea of this piece, I am finding myself sad to watch it go! This I guess is the heartbreak of a commissioned artist. Ultimately, the joy of knowing I can strive to create pieces my clients have a personal connection to is a joy that outweighs the fact most of my better pieces don't belong to me. And let's face it, art is meant to be appreciated and I don't have enough walls for all that! Besides, so much of what I have done exists because the inspiration for it came from my client's heart, which makes what I do very, very collaborative. And I love that! All that being said, I love challenges and I'd love the chance to create something new.
