Stephanie & Efraim Silva have been my dear friends for many years now (Stephanie and I go way back. We have made home videos of wars between her siblings and mine- "Gorts Vs. Lawlers!" And it was on our combined family vacations that I shaved my forehead in between my eyebrows, accidentally making them abnormally far apart. I was in 5th grade.. Since then, we have attended each other's Quinceñera's and birthday parties and other life events, including a missions trip to Brazil.. Which is where Steph & Efraim first met!)
Anyhoo, when Stephanie asked me to do a mural for the baby room in their house, I was thrilled!
Steph is a wonderful gal who crochets all kinds of things, cooks yummy Cuban food and loves anything cute and adorable, including baby owls. Efraim & Steph have a wonderful home which they fill with lots of love.
When it came to the actual mural, Steph had already done a lot of the research. I recreated a tree that she found online and I used a watercolor of a baby owl as an inspiration for my own little owl family.
My talented aspiring photographing friend, Jenn Elrod, graciously accompanied me to the Silva's home to document the mural painting process. I hope you enjoy watching the tree and little family grow!
The dark green "springs" and partial hearts in the leaves really help to give the tree a fanciful and willowy feel.
Okay. I have to stop and say something about this little baby owl's expression. So adorable! In my mind, he is seeing the world for the first time and his wide awe-filled eyes are taking it in, squeezed between the comforting safety of his parents. SO cute :)
Thank you Steph & Efraim so much for letting me come and play in your baby room! It was a blast.
