My name is Christy Collins and I am the little painter behind Simple Sparrow. I am married to my favorite person who holds a lot of his own share of talent, especially in the film realm. We both find ourselves humbled to do what we love for work. We have a sweet little one year old who has an insatiable appetite for exploration and another little bean on the way.
I adore traveling & cultures, in fact we just returned from an 8 month journey to four different countries (Kenya, Haiti, Mexico & India.) It was an amazing experience and I believe it will influence my work for many years. Other fun facts are, I have an unhealthy and very uncool obsession with Dunkin' Donuts Coffee and I think coldwater springs are magical.
I want the things I create to stir up healing within the souls of people. Working on a project that means a great deal to someone is an inspiration to me. I prefer the pieces through which I can, in some small way, resurrect memories or give imagery to dreams.
I grew up drawing. In college I majored in Theatre Arts/Directing and after getting my feet wet with scenic painting and things like set, lighting and costume renderings, I signed up for a couple of basic art classes (Drawing I, Painting I.)
I got lucky and happened to study under a fantastic professor (whose name is Mr. Craft of all things) and I fell in love with painting. I have been working as a painter for 7 years.
I started out doing mostly commission work; I love collaborating with a client to make their vision happen. Recently I have embarked on the thrilling and slightly terrifying journey of making original art from my own inspiration. Themes I care about often revolve around the human experience as well as beautiful landscape scenery.
Because I have a strong knack for drawing, my work tends to be more in the realism realm, but Im beginning to fall in love with the freedom and poetry that come with looser brush strokes and more vibrant palettes. My main medium is oil paint. (I literally think it looks delicious.) I am open to taking commissions in watercolor, pastel or charcoal.
I base my pricing on my hours painting, supplies and shipping costs. Every project is different. Once I get an idea for a specific project's needs, I am happy to offer an estimate.
